(Explains his marks on the plan to the Court and Jury).
The distance between the arose where I was and circle where rick-
sha was about 30 or 40 yards. I ran after the ppisoner. He ran
across the road crossing the corner between 2 trees then in the
centre of the road running round the western side of the Queen's
statue then along the footpath alongside the Pank garden. After
passing the garden he went straight across for the Hongkong and
Shanghai Bank. Turned sharp round corner in Wardley Street proce
ded up Wardley Street. Nearing Queen's Road he sheered his course
to the right towards the corner of Hongkong and Shanghai Pank that
was as far as I saw him. He was caught there. I did not see him
caught. Running up the road I saw 2 Europeans in Queen's Road at
the top of Wardley Street. One of the two men was a tall big man, I saw him walk towards the man and I thought I saw him stretch out his hand and grip him. I think it is the tall gentleman in Court, Mr. Green. I carried on up Wardley Street, I found a man on the ground, two or three men holding Him down. I was running after him; except that I started from a different place I ran the same way. At the beginning when he ran from the circle (on plan) I ran from the cross. The nearest point I was about 8 yards off. He gained on me. When got to Des Voeux Road I was just on the pavemen when he went round Wardley Street by the Hongkong and Shanghai Bank. I lost sight of him when I was crossing the road. I did not see anybody running between me and the man in the same direction. When I got across Des Voeux Road into Wardley Street. I saw the same man running. I saw nobody else running, When I turned into Wardley Street I should say the man running was 20 yards ahead of
me.

I had not lost sight of him at any other time except when he turned into Wardley Street. There was a bamboo on the footpath, where I indicate on the plan to show apparently no traffic. man jumped over the bamboo I went over it. When I first heard a crack owing to combination of circumstances and I saw smoke arising above the man behind the ricksha I suspected it was a shot. Cross-examined.
The first time the man I was chasing was stopped was by a
